Common Skin Care Mistakes

Skin care Mistake 1. You think you can hydrate your skin simply with water.
It may seem simply but actually water contains large amounts of salt which may easily settle on the surface of your skin leading to the opposite effect – to dry the skin. If you want to hydrate your skin you should use thermal sprays as they have the best hydrating action. Thermal water contains minerals and elements which are useful for your skin - it moisturizes and soothes the skin, preventing it from feeling tight and dry. Recent clinical research show that the mineral-rich water fortifies the skin, restores the pH balance and protects the skin against external aggressors like pollutionn for example. Applying thermal water in the form of a spray is easy and simple – spray it on the skin and after a minute wipe your skin dry.

Skin care Mistake 2. You think you can use your friend’s or mother’s skin care products. Yes, you can use these products but only if they are appropriate for your skin type. Using the wrong skin care products is the most common skin care mistake. A recent research show that 64 percent of the women do not know what exactly is their skin type as well as that 37 percent of the teenagers use the wrong skincare and makeup products. For example if your skin feels tight and dry in the morning and during the day it simply means that your skin is dry; if you are prone to sudden rashes and burns it means your skin might be sensitive; if your skin appears too oily and greasy your skin may be mixed or oily.

Skin care Mistake 3. You think you can nourish your skin by applying Vitamin E ampoule.
It is true that vitamin E has excellent nourishing and moisturizing properties but when it is applied in the form of oil solution it may seriously irritate your skin and cause the appearance of rashes and small dark spots. Vitamin E added to lotions, creams, and other skin care products, as well as taken orally, plays a role in the anti-aging of skin. It helps skin look younger by reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, reduce the risk of sun damage to cells as well as reduce the production of cancer-causing cells but you should remember that the concentration of the ampoule should not be more than 5 % otherwise it may cause serious side effects.

Skin care Mistake 4. You think all of the essential oils are harmful for oily skin.
Absolutely wrong. Only the mineral oils may clog the pores and cause irritation to the skin. Almost 78 percent of the skin care products contain essential oils which have different field of acting – one hydrate the skin; others nourish the skin making it look younger and cleaner. For example jojoba oil, olive oil, aloe vera are recommended for those women with combination or oily skin.

Skin care Mistake 5. You thing that the scrub with natural particles is better than the ones with synthetic granules.
Just the opposite. The edges of the synthetic particles have been processed and they won’t cause trauma to your skin. Limit the usage of sea salt only form your knees, heels, elbows but never exfoliate your skin or neck with sea salt.

Choose Your Cosmetics According To Your Age

Under the age of 12
Most of the biggest cosmetic companies have a special range of makeup products for children. But that doesn’t mean that a child should use makeup. Even a lipstick in a pinky shade won’t look nice on child’s lips. You can buy your daughter a children’s shampoo, children’s toothpaste that contain special ingredients that won’t cause any problems. A colorless lip balm with propolis, Vaseline, honey or fruity taste will protect your child’s lips without looking unnatural. After taking a shower you may apply an oily baby oil or cream such as Johnson&Johnson Baby, Baby Oil.

Teen’s years
During puberty your skin has many problems – pimples, blackheads, whiteheads, excessive oil production. Most of the girls begin using heavy foundations and powders to hide these imperfections but that often aggravate the condition.

The most important thing is to keep your skin clean. There are thousands of anti-bacterial cleansing gels, foams, creams that are suitable for the sensitive teenager’s skin. Form a habit of cleansing your face every day with appropriate products – cleansers, toners and use face creams containing natural ingredients. Gradually you will understand what exactly works best for you.В The hydrating cleansing milk and lotions are great choice for every teenager. Do an exfoliating mask once or twice a week to remove the dead skin cells. Don’t panic is a pimple appears before an important event – you are not the first nor the last person that has pimples. Don’t forget to use a sunscreen to prevent the appearance of brown spots. Enjoy your youth.

At the age of 19 to 26
This is the time when your skin needs less care. A good hydrating cream and daily facial cleansing should be all that’s needed to keep your skin healthy looking. It is still early to start using anti-aging creams with collagen, Retinol or an eye cream. Your skin is still elastic and fresh and there is no need to “nourish“ it with additional rejuvenating ingredients. The most important thing is to wear a sunscreen with SPF higher than 15. You know that the sun is the biggest enemy of the youthful skin. The undesired skin imperfections such as acne, comedones, pimples on the back and shoulders can be avoided with regular cleaning of the skin and a proper diet that includes fresh vegetables and fruits. Limit the consumption of greasy foods, chocolate, alcohol, cigarette smoke.

At the age of 26 to 35
The women in this age should be careful for the harmful influences on their skin. Insufficient sleep, smoking, stress, hormonal changes reflect to your skin. At that age you should begin using a combination of night and day cream as well as an eye cream. Again continue using a sunscreen to prevent premature aging due to the sun’s harmful rays. At the age of 30 you can see the first signs of aging – fine lines around the eyes and around the mouth, brown spots. Most of the cosmetic companies have special ranges for the different age groups.

Over 35
At the age of 35 you should start using anti-aging skincare products. You should use day and night anti-aging serums, creams and the usage of an anti-aging eye cream is crucial. Keep your skin clean and don’t apply too much makeup. Look for a light reflecting foundations and powders, with anti-aging ingredients. Avoid using too bright colors for your makeup as they can make you appear older. Using nourishing masks and nourishing lotions is essential in order to keep your skin healthy and glowing.

Breast Cancer myths

1. Breast cancer only affects older women.
No, that’s not true. While it’s true that the risk of breast cancer increases as we grow older, breast cancer can occur at any age. There are registered cases when a 13 year old girl was diagnosed with breast cancer.

2. If you have a risk factor for breast cancer, you’re likely to get the disease.
No, that’s not true. Getting breast cancer is not a certainty, even if you have one of the stronger risk factors, like a breast cancer gene abnormality. Of women with a inherited genetic abnormality, will develop breast cancer over their lifetime, 20 – 60% won’t. All other risk factors are associated with a much lower probability of being diagnosed with breast cancer.

3. If breast cancer doesn’t run in your family, you won’t get it.
No, that’s not true. Every woman has some risk of breast cancer. About 70% of women who get breast cancer have no known family history of the disease. Increasing age – just the wear and tear of living is the biggest single risk factor for breast cancer. For those women who do have a family history of breast cancer, your risk may be elevated a little, a lot, or not at all. If you are concerned, discuss your family history with your GP or a genetic counselor.

4. Only your mother’s family history of breast cancer can affect your risk.
No, that’s not true. A history of breast cancer in your mother’s or your father’s family will influence your risk equally. That’s because half of your genes come from your mother, half from your father. But a man with a breast cancer gene abnormality is less likely to develop breast cancer than a woman with a similar gene. So, if you want to learn more about your father’s family history, you have to look mainly at the women on your father’s side, not just the men.

Rata Penuh5. Using antiperspirants causes breast cancer.
No, that’s not true. There is no evidence that the active ingredient in antiperspirants, or reducing perspiration from the underarm area, influences breast cancer risk. The supposed link between breast cancer and antiperspirants is based on misinformation about anatomy and a misunderstanding of breast cancer.

6. Birth control pills cause breast cancer.
No, that’s not true. Modern day birth control pills contain a low dose of the hormones estrogen and progesterone. Many research studies show no association between birth control pills and an increased risk of breast cancer. However, one study that combined the results of many different studies did show an association between birth control pills and a very small increase in risk. The study also showed that this slight increase in risk decreased over time.

7. Eating high-fat foods causes breast cancer
No, that’s not true. Several large studies have not been able to demonstrate a clear connection between eating high-fat foods and a higher risk of breast cancer. Ongoing studies are attempting to clarify this issue further. Excess body weight, is a risk factor for breast cancer, because the extra fat increases the production of estrogen outside the ovaries and adds to the overall level of estrogen in the body. If you are already overweight, or have a tendency to gain weight easily, avoiding high-fat foods is a good idea.

8. A monthly breast self-exam is the best way to diagnose breast cancer. Yes, at some point. High quality, film-screen mammography is the most reliable way to find breast cancer as early as possible, when it is most curable. By the time a breast cancer can be felt, it is usually bigger than the average size of a cancer first found on mammography. Breast examination by you or your healthcare provider is still very important. About 25% of breast cancers are found only on breast examination (not on the mammogram), about 35% are found on mammography alone, and 40% are found by both physical exam and mammography. Keep both bases covered.

9. I’m at high risk for breast cancer and there’s nothing I can do about it. No, that’s not true. There are several effective ways to reduce, but not eliminate the risk of breast cancer in women at high risk. Options include lifestyle changes (minimize alcohol consumption, stop smoking, exercise regularly), medication (tamoxifen); and in cases of very high risk, surgery may be offered (prophylactic mastectomies, and for some women, prophylactic ovary removal). Be sure that you have consulted with a physician or genetic counselor before you make assumptions about your level of risk.

10. A breast cancer diagnosis is an automatic death sentence
No, that’s not true. Fully 80% of women diagnosed with breast cancer have no signs of metastases (no cancer has spread beyond the breast and nearby lymph nodes). Furthermore, 80% of these women live at least five years, most longer, and many live much longer. Even women with signs of cancer metastases can live a long time. Plus promising treatment breakthroughs are becoming available each day.

How To Get Rid Of Pimples And How To Treat Pimples

Everyone gets pimples even once in lifetime. An estimated 60 percent of all people between the ages of 10 and 35 have pimples outbreaks at some point. Pimples can flare up at any time and unfortunately 50 percent of them leave a scar behind. We can define a pimple as a tiny little infection in the skin pores a disorder resulting from the action of hormones and other substances on the skin’s oil glands and hair follicles. Pimples are small, hard, red eminences of the skin, rising gradually and then disappearing after light suppuration. A pimple begins to form when cells clump together causing a plug. Then the excess oil being produced starts to build up behind the plug.

WHAT CAUSES PIMPLES:
  • Increase production in hormones “androgens”
  • Pregnancy
  • Certain drugs
  • Greasy cosmetics
  • Changing hormone levels
  • Stress
  • Poor hygiene
  • Increased oil production
  • Inflammation
  • Pollution
  • Bacteria
  • An improper diet
  • Clogged pores
  • Genetics

Scientists believe that the main cause of forming a pimple is the increased production of male hormones called androgens in both girls and boys the sebaceous glands begin to produce more sebum. Pimples can develop due to genetics, which means that if your mother or father has pimples you are more likely to have them too.

The presence of bacteria on the skin’s surface often cause pimples to develop. The name of this bacteria is Propionibacterium acnes. This bacteria produce chemicals and enzymes and attract white blood cells that cause inflammation. Pimples can affect everyone, no matter races or ages. Around 60 percent of the teenagers get pimples but some people in their forties or fifties continue to have outbreaks.

HOW TO TREAT PIMPLES:
The best way to treat pimples is to follow a strict skincare regime every day.
Cleansing your face two/ three times a day with appropriate for your skin type products is crucial. There are many specialized acne cleansers, astringents, exfoliators and creams containing benzyl peroxide, salicylic acid, glycolic acid and glycerin that cleanse your skin in deep and “dry out” the pimples. Benzyl peroxide is a mild drying and peeling agent which is thought to help keep pores from clogging. Some products on the market can potentially be both drying and irritating to your skin. Avoid using drying products containing harsh products because they can increase your likelihood of experiencing skin irritation. Nowadays there is a wide range of different cleansers for every skin type, from normal to sensitive. The main purpose of the facial cleanser is to gently clean your skin without irritating it. It’s crucial to select a cleanser that is appropriate for your skin type. If your skin is oily or combination it must be stronger, more drying containing oil-absorbing ingredients.

Remember overzealous cleansing of the skin can lead to irritation of both normal skin and acne lesions. If you have pimples it’s essential to use a toner. I recommend you to choose a toner containing alcohol. A tonic containing alcohol will dry the pimples but use it carefully. Use specially designed tonics and lotions for oily and acne prone skin. They should contain salicylic acids, glycolic or hydroxyl acids and benzoyl peroxide. The lotions and the tonics speed up skin cell turnover, dry up the oils and promote sloughing of dead skin cells. Before applying , gently wash the affected area with a mild cleanser, then pat dry. Apply to the affected areas of the face or to the whole face.

Always remove your makeup in the evening and apply pimple-fighting medicine to remove all the impurities, oils and makeup residue. Not removing the makeup at night is the biggest deadly sin of skincare. It can be very damaging to your skin? the makeup clog your pores and breakouts may occur more frequent and most importantly your skin won’t be able to breathe.

Most of the people prefer to squeeze or pick at a pimple because they think that it is the best way to get rid of pimples. I don’t recommend you to do that? squeezing a pimple causes the pimple to become redder and inflamed. When squeezing a pimple you can easily spread the bacteria to other parts of your face. In more than 75 percent of the cases squeezing leads to red scars. Squeezing pimples sometimes may even leave open holes on your face, that are very difficult to remove later.

If the pimples are caused by excess production of male hormones / androgens/ the treatment includes several drugs – birth control pills, corticosteroid drugs and spironolactone.
Sometimes a superficial laser may be necessary to treat pimples and scars. Dermabrasion can also used to treat pimples and small scars. Dermabrasion smooths wrinkles, refines and clears enlarged pores, clogged pores, and face acne scars.

Most of the girls suffering from pimples hide them with applying too much foundation and face powder. Although most of the dermatologist and make-up artists believe that there is nothing wrong in doing so I don’t think that it’s right thing to do. You must allow your skin to breathe and as we know some greasy cosmetics / especially heavy foundations/ clog the pores and don’t allow your skin to breathe normally which often leads to an infection. In 5 percent of the cases pimples are a result from using greasy cosmetics. Under the influence of oily creams, oily powders and foundation, the skin begin to produce little subcutaneous cysts that clog the pores, making them looking larger and visible. That’s why your foundation, blush, face powder, moisturizer and hair care products must be absolutely oil-free. Greasy cosmetics may irritate the inflammations and cause further breakouts.

Make sure that all of your skincare products and makeup cosmetics are noncomedogenic and nonacnegenic which means that they won’t clog your pores, cause breakouts and pimples.

HOW TO TREAT PIMPLES ON THE BACK?
When the skin on the back is very oily, little pimples and pustules may form. It’s essential to regularly cleanse and exfoliate the back. Do a back exfoliation every week to remove the impurities embedded in the pores. Do a back mask once a week and apply hydrating body milk.

Other alternatives:
1. Apply an ice cube to the pimple and hold it for a few minutes. The ice cube decreases the swelling and redness and at the same time shrinks enlarged pores.
2. Use a concealer to hide pimples and scars the concealer should be an antibacterial and oil-free. Dot the concealer only in places you need to. Start with a slightly darker tone and blend into with a sponge to match the lighter foundation in order to avoid creating light spots. Apply the concealer after the foundation to achieve best results.
3. Applying a dab of toothpaste on the pimple before going to bed helps sooth irritation, reduces redness and dries out the pimple.
4. Apply a clay mask to your face twice a week – clay masks draw out toxins and impurities and are essential for keeping the skin clear. They work best for those with oily skin? they remove the excess oil and shrink the enlarged pores and shrink pimples. The clay mask should be applied with soft circular motions to help it get into the pores. Always let the mask to dry otherwise it won’t show good results. When the mask is dry rinse thoroughly with water and apply moisturizer. The clay masks can be applied also on the neck, back, and neckline.
5. Apply honey to any affected areas several times a day? the honey is known to reduce redness, nourish the skin and give a natural glow to the skin.
6. Rubbing your skin with lemon juice is the best and most effective way to treat pimples lemon juice lightens red scars and blemishes, maintains the pH balance of the skin.

How To Blow-Dry Curly Hair Properly

As you know the success of your curls depends mainly on the cut, but also on the way you blow-dry your curly hair. It’s essential to blow dry your curly hair properly in order to achieve best results. Using a diffuser is the best way to blow-dry curly hair without damaging it. Before you begin blow-drying your hair make sure you have: a towel, hair dryer, diffuser, heat protective product, styling product (mousse, gel, foam, curl enhancing product), wide toothed comb, brush, clips.

Step 1. Shampoo and condition your hair
Always use a shampoo specifically designed for your hair type. Make sure your shampoo is mild and cleanses your hair well. It shouldn’t contain alcohol or any harsh chemicals. Look for a low pH shampoo to keep your hair moisturized. Massage the scalp with the tips of the fingers instead of the fingernails to avoid scalp irritation. Rinse your hair thoroughly with lukewarm water and never rinse with hot water as it dries out your hair. Apply a conditioner every time you wash your hair. Apply the conditioner to the entire hair, concentrating on the ends. Leave it on for approximately 3/ 5 minutes to penetrate deeply into your hair and then rinse thoroughly.

Step 2. Towel dry your hair
After washing your hair, wrap your hair in a towel to remove the excess water but don’t rub your curly hair because you may easily damage the cuticles. Let your hair dry wrapped in a towel for approximately 5/ 10 minutes.

Step 3. Comb your hair
Use a wide toothed comb to comb your wet hair gently. Always begin combing in small sections, at the ends of the hair and continue combing to the scalp, when detangling.

Step 4. Apply a heat protecting product
Applying a heat protecting product is a must when blow drying or straightening your hair. These products protect the hair from heat damage and enhance the effectiveness of your blow dryer, as they buffer the heat from every heat styling product. Most of the heat protecting products contain ingredients that add shine to the hair, calm frizz and extend the life of your hair color. Apply it onto clean and damp hair lightly to each section of your hair.

Step 5. Apply a styling product
Apply a styling product to help you manage and control your curls. Apply the styling product (mousse, gel, foam, spray) throughout your hair, using a comb to distribute it evenly. Make sure you apply a proper amount of the product, concentrating on the ends to avoid the roots so as not to overload it with product. These products not only make curly hair more manageable but they also give blow-dried hair more body and styling qualities.

Step 6. Divide your hair into section
Divide your hair into four sections using clips. This way it will be easier for you to blow-dry your hair, especially it is curly. Gently comb each section of your hair.

Step 7. Start blow drying
Take one section of your hair and keep working on it. First start blow drying to the roots and make sure your blow dryer is set on low or medium heat to avoid damage. Keep it about five/ six inches away from your hair. The air must blow upwards your fingers. Start blow drying your hair with a rough brush to lift the roots up and out if you want to get more volume.

When using a diffuser tilt your head so that your hair falls into the diffuser. Hold it close to your head. Work the diffuser around your head, ensuring all sections are dry. The diffuser will give your hair more volume and will distribute the heat evenly without blasting the curls from your style. Gently run your fingers through your hair and shake out the curls.

Step 8. Apply a hairspray
Apply a blast of hairspray to keep your curls shiny and droop-free.

Useful Tips:
  1. Use a volumizing shampoo and a leave-in-conditioner to help plump locks.
  2. Do not brush your curls, leave them to hang naturally.
  3. Remember: curly hair is very fragile and tends to break easily.
  4. Avoid everyday blow drying.
  5. Apply an anti-frizz spray to prevent frizziness.
  6. If you want to give your hair more volume, move the blow-dryer in small circular motions.
  7. Never blow-dry too close to the scalp to avoid damaging it.
  8. When blow-drying, go very slowly on each section of your hair to another.
  9. If your hair is prone to frizz, keep your fingers out of your hair until it is absolutely dry.
  10. Overheating your hair may seriously damage it.
  11. Always use a low or medium heat.
  12. Lift your curls gently while blow-drying to create more volume.
  13. Use silicone based shine enhancing spray to add shine to your hair.
  14. Look for an ionic blow dryer as it is less damaging.
  15. Always use a heat protecting product when styling your hair.
  16. Always use a wide toothed comb to comb wet hair – brushing wet hair can seriously damage the cuticles.
  17. Point the nozzle of the blow dryer downside to avoid frizzes.
  18. Do a deep conditioning treatment once or twice a month to keep your hair in good shape.
  19. Do not use too much styling products, instead coat just the ends of the hair.
  20. Look for products containing vitamins, antioxidants, amino acids, UV protective filters, moisturizing ingredients, essential oils.
  21. Massage your scalp every time while shampooing your hair to improve blood circulation.
