How To Apply Foundation Correctly

Foundation is among the most used makeup products all over the world. Know as “a foundation”, “makeup base”, “fond de teint” it can cover up any little blemishes and give your skin an even and flawless look. The foundation gives your face an even color. It’s a base for the makeup application. Foundations cover both areas of coloration and blemish discolorations, hide little pimples, dark spots, red spots, blackheads and whiteheads. They moisturize and nourish the skin, some of them even have an anti-ageing effect. A good foundation helps protect your skin from dirt, debris and harsh climate. It helps treat everything from pimples to wrinkles.

How to apply the foundation correctly:
Step 1 Cleanse and tone your skin
Always apply foundation to a cleansed and toned skin. Use a mild cleanser appropriate for your skin and cleanse your face thoroughly to remove all the impurities and oils that have accumulated during the night. Tone your skin with a toner that suits your skin. Use it lavishly – apply with cotton pad and wipe until clean.

Step 2 Moisturize your skin
Always moisturize your skin before applying the foundation even if your skin is oily. The first step when applying makeup is the application of appropriate moisturizer according to your skin type. It will improve your skin quality and act as a protective layer to help trap the moisture in the skin and stop it from evaporation. Apply the moisturizer and let it soak in at least 3 minutes before applying foundation. Moisturizers protect your skin from the sun, wind, cold, from the environmental pollutants and nourish your skin. Moisturizers plump and comfort your skin and make the foundation easier to blend smoothly. If your foundation disappear within few hours of application, or drags when you blend it that means that probably your skin needs more moisturizer.

Step 3 Use concealer
Apply concealer to problem areas. Dot the concealer only in places you need to. Start with a slightly darker tone and blend into with a sponge to match the lighter foundation in order to avoid creating light spots. Don’t use too lighter concealer to hide dark circles under the eyes, it should be just slightly lighter than the foundation color. To hide pimples or spots, use thick concealer that matches your skin tone. Apply it using a small makeup brush directly on the spot and blend slightly till it disappears.

Step 4 Application
Warm up the foundation in your palms – this way it will penetrate deep into your skin and will last longer. The best way to apply it is using your fingertips or a makeup sponge. Using your fingertips will give the heaviest application, but a sponge gives a thinner application.Put a little foundation on a makeup sponge, foundation brush or on your fingertips. A sponge provides more control and a smoother application. If you are going to use a brush it should be small, like that for the lipstick. The brush works best if you have to cover marks or pimples.

Step 5

Start applying foundation in the centre of your face and make sure the color matches your skin tone. Dot foundation on your cheekbones, chin, forehead, nose eyelids and lips. With the help of the sponge or your fingertips blend well – the foundation must never show. Gently press the sponge over your face to set the foundation.

Step 6 Blend
Start blending at your forehead and slowly spread all over your face, moving in circular motions. Blend out to the jawline and your hair line until the foundation vanishes. Don’t forget to apply foundation to the neck, especially if you are using darker shade of foundation otherwise your face will look like a mask and unnatural. Make sure everything blends together and looks the same. Ensure that there are no patches.

Step 7 Set the foundation
To set the foundation, apply loose powder immediately after the application. The powder will hold the foundation in place for a longer period of time. Dab the powder brush into the powder and shake off the excess powder. The brush will help you to apply the powder evenly to facial contours for a well blended powder finish. Apply it firstly to the centre of your face, forehead and chin. Stroke the face gently to cover all areas evenly. Don’t forget to apply a small amount of powder to the neck.

Useful tips for applying foundation:
  • To choose the right shade of foundation apply a stripe of color to clean skin on the jawline and blend slightly – the color that disappears on the skin is the correct one.
  • The color should match your skin.
  • If your skin is acne-prone look for a foundation with salicylic acid that treats pimples without clogging pores.
  • Is you are using a liquid foundation shake off the bottle to mix the formula
  • Always set the foundation with a loose powder.
  • If your skin is mature look for a foundation with ingredients that scatter light and light reflecting ingredients to brighten your skin. Be very careful with the foundation – if it isn’t appropriate for your skin type it can easily settle into any fine lines and pores.
  • If your skin is oily look for a powder foundation with a matte finish.
  • Always shake the bottle of the liquid foundation before the application.
  • A heavier foundation is appropriate for those who have lots of blemishes
  • Make sure your face is clean and moisturized before applying the foundation
  • Select a foundation with SPF at least 15 to protect your skin from the UV rays
  • Warm the foundation in your palms before applying it – the heat from your hands will increase the foundation’s ability to penetrate the skin and will helps the base to last longer.
  • Make sure the foundation is spread evenly.
  • Always start applying foundation in the centre of your face and move outwards
  • Never forget to apply foundation to the neck
  • Choose a foundation with a sunscreen to prevent sun damage.
  • If your skin is oily use lighter weight foundation, otherwise it can accentuate the enlarged pores and can even clog them.
  • Use two different foundations – one for the summer and one for the winter
  • Make sure your powder is in the same shade as your foundation
  • If your complexion is dewy use tinted moisturizer instead of foundation
  • If your skin is oily use oil-free moisturizer and powder foundation
  • Use makeup sponge to apply the foundation evenly
  • Always apply the foundation downwards
  • Blot the face with a tissue to soak up the excess oil
  • A foundation should be applied straight after the application of a moisturizer
  • Light-diffusing foundation will give your skin radiance and a real finish.
  • The matte foundation can make skin look dull so avoid using them.
  • To conceal dark circles under the eyes apply small amount and blend well.
  • If you have acne-prone skin choose an oil-free formula and a hypoallergic brand for a sensitive skin.
  • If your skin is young look for a color adaptive foundation.

How To Apply False Lashes and How To Remove False Lashes

Long and thick eyelashes are a surefire way to instant prettiness. Usually fake lashes come in three lengths – short, medium, long and are available in all colors and shapes to suit different eye shapes. The false lashes are made from human hair or from animal hair. Individual lashes can be used to fill in sparse eyelash areas, but are more difficult to apply. The individual eyelashes look more natural.

Strip eyelashes add density to the entire lash line and are easy to apply but in most of the cases they don’t look natural. False lashes always come with special glue designed specifically to help you apply the fake eyelashes. It’s essential to select the right lashes that will complement your eye shape and your look.

THE BENEFITS OF APPLYING FALSE LASHES ARE:
1. False eyelashes widen the eyes
2. False eyelashes enhances the natural lashes
3. False eyelashes create a subtle, sophisticated look
4. False eyelashes define your lash line
5. False eyelashes plump your eyes

FOR THE APPLICATION OF FALSE LASHES YOU WILL NEED: 1. a pair of fake lashes
2. eyelash glue
3. small scissors
4. tweezers
5. liquid eyeliner
6. makeup remover
7. cotton pads

HOW TO APPLY FALSE LASHES:

1. Step 1 Apply the makeup as usual
Always apply your makeup before applying the fake lashes. Use a foundation to create a flawless look, apply face powder to set your makeup. Make sure your lashes are clean and free of all traces of makeup or mascara. I don’t recommend you to use creamy eye shadows because oiliness will prevent the glue sticking adequately.

2. Step 2 Trim your fake lashes
Trim the false eyelashes in length and width to suit your eye size. To trim them use a sharp scissors to accommodate your needs. Review the length of the lashes – put them close to your natural eyelashes. Always trim false lashes before applying glue on them.

3. Step 3 Apply the glue
Fake lashes individual or strip lashes always come with glue. The glue used for the application of false lashes is usually waterproof and looks clear. Apply a thin line of glue along the false lashes and let it dry for 2/ 3 minutes.
If you are going to use individual lashes – dip the end of the eyelashes in the glue and wait for a few seconds. Before using the lashes check the tackiness with your finger.

4. Step 4 Apply the fake lashes
Get close to a mirror and look down. Guide the strip lash into position directly under the natural lash line. Always pick up the fake lashes with tweezers. Position the false lashes slightly above your natural lashes and press ends into place. Adjust the lashes with tweezers or with your fingertips. Press the eyelashes down for a few seconds on the outside of your eye. Don’t worry if you have a little extra glue showing – it will dry clear.

If you are going to use individual lashes apply the same way as strip lashes. I recommend you to apply individual lashes higher than your own natural lash line to avoid damage, again using tweezers. Dip the tips of the fake lashes into a little glue – apply them where you want and need to. Hold the lash in place until the glue sets

5. Step 5 Curl the lashes and apply mascara
You can curl fake lashes as you would normally do it without worries. Apply mascara to blend your natural lashes and the fake lashes. Fill in the sparse areas using liquid eyeliner, eye pencil or dark eye shadows.

HOW TO REMOVE FALSE EYELASHES AT HOME:
Fake lashes should always be removed in the evening, before going to bed. Most of the glues used for the false lashes’ application are water based and can be easily removed with water, cleansing milk or makeup remover.

Use face cloth or cotton pad saturated with warm water and a gentle makeup remover. Hold the face cloth / cotton pad/ over your eyes for 2/ 3 minutes to soften the glue. Remove fake lashes carefully to avoid pulling out your natural lashes.
Wash the fake lashes with lukewarm water, soap or brush cleanser to remove any mascara and dirt.

USEFUL BEAUTY TIPS:
  • Always apply your makeup before applying fake lashes.
  • Don’t use creamy eye shadows – the glue won’t stick adequately.
  • Always trim fake lashes before applying glue on them.
  • Always trim fake lashes with small scissors.
  • Always follow the instruction supplied with the lashes.
  • Always leave the glue to dry for a couple of minutes.
  • The glue must always be tacky before you put on fake lashes.
  • Make sure the glue is dry before you put on fake lashes – of the glue is wet the lashes may slide around.
  • Use tweezers to pick up the lashes.
  • Curl fake lashes carefully after the application.
  • Always position eyelashes slightly above your natural lash line.
  • Always remove false lashes carefully before going to sleep.
  • Most of the fake lashes can be used again.
  • Never pull the lashes from the lids.
  • Never apply glue directly to your eyelids.
  • Never put the lash on top of your lashes.
  • Line your lash line with black or brown liquid eyeliner to conceal the lash band.
  • You can apply mascara before you put on fake lashes.
  • When buying false lashes, select the one that look more natural.
  • Look for natural length false lashes.
  • Never sleep with fake lashes – it may cause irritation and damage your lashes.

How To Apply Face Cream Properly

Face creams have been used for centuries already. Using and applying face creams is essential for every skin type and for every age. Face creams protect the skin from the environmental aggressions, from dehydration and keep the skin healthy-looking. There are different creams that are formulated for different needs, there are regenerating face creams, emollient face creams, anti-aging face creams, hydrating creams, moisturizing face creams etc. All of them bring essential for the skin active ingredients and the epidermis remains fresh and elastic.
Common ingredients in face creams are – chamomile, honey, beeswax, minerals, vitamins, paraffin, glycerin, lanoline, castor oil, almond oil, olive oil, Vaseline, Aloe Vera fragrances and conservatives.

How to choose the perfect face cream for your skin: The most important rule when choosing face cream is to make sure it is appropriate for your skin type and your skin’s needs. For example if your skin is dry you should look for a product that is specially designed for dry skin. The cream should be oily and well moisturizing and make sure it’s hypoallergenic and fragrance-free.

If you have oily skin prone to breakouts look for a less oily texture. There are great face creams for oily skin that not only keep the skin hydrated and fresh-looking but also absorb the excess oil from the skin’s surface and regulate the production of oil. Look for a matifying cream that is hypoallergenic and noncomedogenic (won’t clog pores).

Many of my clients ask me whether there is a difference between a face cream and a moisturizer. Face creams are thicker in texture than the moisturizers and contain more nourishing ingredients that repair and condition the skin. In other words face creams not only keep the skin well-hydrated but they also nourish and replenish it. Moisturizers also do a great work but their main aim is to moisturize the skin. Both moisturizers and face creams help retain moisture in the skin and boost its ability to protect itself from the environmental irritants.

The benefits of using and applying face creams are:
1. protect the skin from the sun, wind, cold
2. nourish the skin
3. moisturize the skin
4. omfort and plump the skin
5. improve skin’s quality
6. slow down the natural moisture loss
7. prevent skin dehydration
8. work as a day treatments
9. create a base for the makeup application
10. prevent dryness and cracking
11. keep the skin smooth and supple

Step 1 Cleanse and tone your face
Always apply the face cream on cleansed and toned skin.Use a mild cleanser and wash your face with circular motions. Apply facial toner depending on your skin type to remove any excess oil, dirt or makeup residue. Let your face dry for a few minutes before you apply the cream, otherwise it will just slide right off your face.

Step 2 Apply the cream
Always wash your hands before applying any skin product or makeup product to prevent infection. Take appropriate amount of the cream with your fingertips (on the fourth finger) and apply it to the face, avoiding the eye area. Use an eye cream to moisturize and nourish the skin around the eyes. Dot the cream, an inch away from the eyes to avoid irritation. Starting with the centre of your face applying the product up and out to give your face a bit of a lift. Make sure you apply the cream evenly and massage it very lightly. Never rub the cream. If your have looks and feels too oily use a tissue to absorb the excess.

Step 3 Don’t forget your neck
Always apply moisturizer or face cream to your neck too. Stroke upward so that you don’t pull the skin down.

Useful tips:
– Always apply face cream or a moisturizer before applying the foundation even if your skin is oily.
– If your skin is prone to breakouts or is prone to acne choose a cream containing alpha hydroxy or benzoyl peroxide.
– A face cream should be applied daily , even if you aren’t going to apply makeup.
– always apply the cream to a clean and toned face.
– Always make sure your hands are clean before applying moisturizer, face cream or foundation.
– Select a products with SPF at least 15 to protect your skin from the harmful UVA/ UVB rays.
– You can wear a sunscreen over your cream.
– Make sure the cream is appropriate for your skin type.
– Don’t use heavy and too thick cream even if your skin is very dry.
– If your skin is oily select a oil-free and non-comedogenic matifying cream.
– If your foundation disappear within few hours of application, or drags when you blend it that means that probably your skin needs more moisture.
– Always apply calming or hydrating face cream after exfoliation, because exfoliating causes the skin to dry out and needs more moisture.
– Never use heavy creams or moisturizers around the eyes as these could irritate your eyes.
– The better the quality of your cream the more protection from dryness it will give you.
– Never keep your moisturizer, face cream or other skincare or makeup products in the bathroom as water may get in them, which can spread bacteria.
– Many brands offer day and night face creams that work together to achieve best results.
– Always make sure the cream is well-absorbed into the skin before you apply makeup.
– Choose a cream with sun protection (SPF 15 or higher) , specially during the summer months to prevent skin discoloration, brown spots, post-pimple scars and redness.

Healthy Foods for Women

Osteoporosis, iron deficiency, breast cancer and heart disease after menopause are more prevalent in women and related to our genetics. But as researchers probe more and more into genetics, evidence shows that environmental factors consistently play a role in whether or not a person will develop disease.

An important environmental factor within our control is diet. Diet plays a significant role in whether or not harmful genes cause disease. While there is no “miracle” food, there are “superfoods” for women that have been identified that meet some of women’s unique nutritional needs. Research has shown that the nutrients in these foods are particularly important to women by giving a wide range of protection that lowers risk for certain types of diseases.

What follows is a list of the healthiest foods that every woman should try to incorporate into her diet:
1. Fatty fish such as salmon, halibut, sardines, tuna and mackerel. Fatty fishes are typically cold-water fish, rich in omega-3 fatty acids as well as iron and Vitamins A and D. Two forms of omega-3 fatty acid are DHA and EPA. Omega-3 oils found in the fish appear to reduce inflammation which is linked to a number of diseases including heart disease, stroke, hypertension, lupus and rheumatoid arthritis. Products are reaching the grocery store shelves that are supplemented with DHA and EPA.

2. Walnuts. Walnuts are rich in alpha-linolenic acid (ALA) which has been shown to lower cholesterol. ALA can also be found in flaxseed, canola oils, wheat germ and soybeans.

3. Low-fat yogurt. Yogurt is loaded with bone-healthy calcium and helps reduce the risk of osteoporosis. Most women are not getting enough calcium in their diets and this is particularly troubling for younger women. Bone mass is believed to peak at 25 years of age. After 25 years most people no longer build bone mass. Developing osteoporosis depends upon the peak bone mass and the rate and duration of bone loss as we age. Insufficient accumulation of bone mass in younger women put them at a higher risk for developing osteoporosis. Calcium is found in other foods such as low-fat dairy products, canned salmon or sardines because of the soft bones and calcium-fortified orange juice.

4. Blueberries and broccoli.
Plant compounds called flavonoids are responsible for the vibrant colors of fruits and vegetables. Flavonoids make up a large family of bioactive compounds, better known as anti-oxidants. Anti-oxidants neutralize harmful effects of molecules in our bodies that cause cell damage. Flavonoids are what give fruits and vegetables their protective effects in the fight against cancer and heart disease. Anti-oxidants also may protect the skin from aging. Foods containing flavonoids include teas, red wine, berries, purple grapes, tomatoes, oranges, yellow-green vegetables, and garlic.

5. Red beans and oatmeal. Both foods are a good source of soluble fiber which may lower cholesterol, conferring heart protective effects. Beans are from a family of vegetables called legumes. Other legumes are peas and lentils. All legumes are a major source of complex carbohydrates, fiber and protein and are rich in essential minerals. Researchers also found that legumes, lentils in particular, may provide some protective effects against breast cancer.

6. Olive oil and avocados. Monounsaturated fats reduce triglycerides and cholesterol. Olive oil and avocados are very high in monounsaturated fats so they are considered heart healthy. Simply knowing what foods are healthy and give the biggest bang for the buck is not enough to reap the benefits. In order to choose healthy foods and include them in your diet you first need to look at your eating habits and start to make small changes. Keep healthy foods on hand that you actually like to eat and begin substituting them in place of less healthy foods.

Begin a collection of “superfood” recipes that you really enjoy and plan your meals and snacks. Make a grocery list for when you shop. This allows for “purposeful grocery shopping” and helps keep unhealthy food choices out of the cart and coming into the house. To begin getting the most from the “superfoods” combine them into simple recipes and start reaping the rewards today!

Got thirsty lips?

Just as the rest of your skin, lips require constant hydration, especially during summer. Exposure to sun, high temperatures and strong wind causes the thin defensive layer of the lips to lose its moisture retention capacity. Dry, chapped and inflamed lips as a result? These are signs that the lips are thirsty.

Lips never tan because they lack melanin, but can get sunburnt if not protected. Use balm, lipstick or gloss with a sun protection factor (SPF) or a special care product. Don’t lick your lips in an attempt to moisten them as the saliva contains salts, which cause the lips to crack even more.

Lips require extra care if they are prone to peeling and cracking as this means that they are more susceptible to wrinkling as well. Ensure that you don’t have deficiency of one of the following substances: Vitamin B, iron or essential fatty acids. Don’t lick or bite your lips, because they will crack even more. Remove the dead layer of cells by massaging with a soft toothbrush. Increase your daily water intake.

The basic rule is: Always use hydrating and nourishing balms, lipsticks and glosses that have an SPF factor.

Lip Balm Baume Prodigieux Levres from Nuxe, 7 ml Each and every one of the nuances of the lip balm Prodigieux(r) – Natural Crystal, Pink Legendaire or Sparkling Chocolate flawlessly fulfills its mission as means of seduction. These balms are a treat for your lips, as they moisturize, help protect from the sun rays and are the perfect finishing touch to your makeup.

Mango and sunflower oils increase the skin’s natural defense mechanisms by enriching the tissue with lipids, thus soothing the lips and improving their elasticity. The Shea butter nourishes and preserves hydration by retaining water in the cells. The sweet almond oil, rich in Vitamin A and E, is a soothing treat for dry lips.

Nourishing lipstick Lumene Premium Beauty, 3,8 gr Long-lasting lipstick with Sea-Buckthorn oil for softness and exquisite shine. The patented complex Tri-peptidesTM soothes and protects the lips against the harmful effects of free radicals. The 15% water content restores elasticity and strengthens skin structures so that the lipstick doesn’t fall into the fine wrinkles around the lips.

Hydrating lipstick Lumene Cranberry kiss, 4,5 gr The Red blueberry seeds oil nourishes the cracked lips and makes them silky smooth. The unique state of Vitamin E, Tocotrienol, which is contained in the blueberry, is the most effective antioxidant known to people. It reduces the appearance of fine wrinkles around the lips.

Hydrating Lip Balm Nivea Lip Care Hydro Care This balm provides intensive and long-term hydration for the lips. Thanks to its light texture it is absorbed quickly with no greasy residue. The balm contains moisturizing Aqua spheres and natural ingredients: Shea butter and Jojoba oil.

Four Things That Can Seriously Harm Your Skin

Many skincare products and hair care products contain harsh chemicals that can seriously harm your skin and hair. For instance, many shampoos containing chemicals dry the hair and often cause dandruff. Some facial cleansers contain harsh ingredients that may destroy the enzymes that trigger absorption and lubrication and this often leads to oversensitive skin, dry patches, redness and even rashes.

Skin care products containing harsh chemicals encourage your skin to produce more oil which can be a big problem for those with oily or combination skin. Those with sensitive or dry skin should always be very careful when buying new products – they shouldn’t contain harsh chemicals. Look for products with natural ingredients, essential oils and vitamins.

The most common harsh chemicals in skincare products and hair care products are: Propylene Glycol – common ingredient in face creams and lotions, it’s known to cause skin allergies and to denaturate the skin’s protein; Sodium Lauryl Sulfate / SLS/ – used in shampoos, soaps, cleansers, it’s known to cause premature aging and poor air; Fragrances – used widely in skin and hair care products, a fragrance may lead to skin irritation, headache, rash and hyperpigmentation; Mineral Oil – widely used in facial cleansers and clarifying lotions, it’s known to clog the facial pores and to enlarge them; Synthetic Colors – widely used in skin and hair care products to make them colorful, known to cause allergic reactions and serious rashes; Triethanolamine / TEA/ – used in skin care products to adjust the pH, known to cause allergies, dryness and eye irritation.

Choose your skincare products very carefully to avoid unwanted reactions. Look for hypoallergenic products that contain no harsh chemicals. Mineral Makeup is an excellent choice for example. Remember: what you put on your skin is immediately absorbed into your blood stream.

Over cleaning your face
Excessive cleaning of the face is a common blunder. If you cleanse your face more than twice a day you can seriously harm your skin. Excessive cleaning can dry out your skin causing it to produce even more oil witch can be a big problem for those with oily or combination skin.
Many women, especially those with oily and acne-prone skin use products containing harsh chemicals, toners containing alcohol and even soaps to cleanse their face because they think that it is the only way to keep their skin clean but that is very, very wrong. Over cleaning your face may result in even greater oil production, more breakouts, rashes and irritations. Excessive facial cleaning and scrubbing cause inflammation, irritation, overdrying of the skin and can exacerbate acne.

Washing your face twice a day / in the morning and in the evening/ with the appropriate for your skin type products should be enough to keep your skin clean and healthy. There is no need to use products with harsh detergents to achieve radiant and clear skin. Find out what works best for you and never skip to cleanse your face. Use a mild facial cleanser and apply a toner, depending on your skin type and on the needs of your skin. Use a moisturizer to keep your skin hydrated and wear a sunscreen to protect your skin from the harmful UV rays. If your skin feels taut and tight after you have cleansed your face this may be a sign that you may be overcleaning it.

UV rays
We have said this hundreds of times and we will say it again – sun radiation can seriously harm your skin. Wearing a sunscreen is a must, especially during the summer months. It’s essential for preventing sun damage and lowering the risk of developing skin cancer. UV rays not only cause premature aging but also can cause skin cancer, freckles, brown spots, dull complexion and so on. It’s essential to wear a sunscreen with SPF at least 15 everyday even during the winter months to protect your skin. Excessive sun exposure often leads to rashes, itchiness and dryness if your skin isn’t protected. The sun radiation breaks down collagen and elastin production causing sagging of the skin and wrinkling. Wearing sunscreen now would definitely deliver benefits later in life.

Overuse of makeup
Overuse of makeup products can seriously harm your skin because most of the products contain harsh chemicals that may irritate your skin and cause allergic reactions. Cosmetics easily become contaminated with bacteria that may cause serious skin problems – rashes, redness, swelling, itching and even scarring. Overuse of makeup may even lead to premature aging as your skin cannot breathe naturally. If you wear makeup everyday it may clog your skin pores and cause a blackhead to form.

Fruits - especially berries and melon – both are low-sugar fruits and help make skin firm and taut. Try to avoid high-sugar foods like pineapple and banana. Nuts and wheat germ are excellent for your hair and nails.

Five Things You Should Never Do When Applying Makeup

1. Never apply face powder or foundation before applying moisturizer or hydrating cream.
You should never apply face powder or makeup foundation before the moisturizer. If your skin is oily or combination, the powder will imbed into your enlarged pores and will make them appear larger and it will be very hard for you to blend the foundation. If your skin is dry the face powder won’t stay put on for longer, your fine lines, wrinkles and small pimples will be more visible and your skin can be easily irritated.

2. Never use too bright makeup to make your face look flawless.
Sometimes bright colors may emphasize any fine lines, wrinkles and imperfections. Instead apply small amount of a foundation in a shade that is close to your natural skin tone. Over the foundation you can apply a face powder in peachy shade using a big powder brush.

3. Never apply a foundation or face powder only to the face.
You should never apply foundation only over your face, especially if you are using a darker shade. If you do so your face will look unnatural and like a mask. Instead, wet a makeup sponge and apply a little bit of the foundation – apply it to the neck from top to bottom and absorb the excess amount with a tissue.

4. Never apply a creamy blush over a face powder.
You should never apply a creamy blush over a face powder, otherwise the result will be – two bright spots over your cheekbones. Over a face powder should always be applied powder blush not a creamy texture.

5. Never outline your lips with darker lip liner.
You should never outline your lips with darker lip liner – a dark line on your lips always ruins the sensual look of your face. Instead use a lip liner in a shade that is close to your natural lip color.

!!! Never apply makeup while driving
You should never apply makeup while driving, especially applying mascara, eye makeup, lipstick – no need to include also eyeliner. Guess what: 4.7 % of the car accidents are due to women applying makeup while driving. It is really very irresponsible, so women never do that.

Five Common Makeup Mistakes

Makeup Mistake 1. Using a cakey foundation
Don’t choose a cakey foundation – it can be too heavy on your skin. It is true that cakey foundations create a good coverage and hide skin imperfections but sometimes / especially if you are wearing a wrong shade/ they may make your face look unnatural and like a mask. Most of these “cakey foundations” are too thick and if your skin is prone to frequent breakouts, acne or is very oily they can clog your pores. So stay away from cakey foundations. Instead choose a light liquid foundation that is appropriate for your skin type and apply it after the moisturizer with a makeup sponge for an even and flawless application.

Makeup Mistake 2. Using too dark foundation A foundation should always match your natural skin tone but unfortunately many women choose a foundation that is two or three shades darker than their skin tone and the result is a face that looks comically and unnatural. Most of the women think that a darker shade of a foundation will act like a bronzer and will create a summer tan but for this aim there are those specifically designed products called bronzers. To find the perfect shade of a foundation consult a beauty consultant or ask your beautician. Sample the foundation in natural light and apply a small amount to your cheekbones and jaw line. Feel free to ask for a sample and try it at home over the entire face.

Makeup Mistake 3. Applying too much foundation to hide imperfections Never use too much of a foundation to hide pimples, scars, small pimples or dark circles under the eyes. For this aim use a concealer – use a light creamy formula that provides good coverage. You can apply the concealer before or after the foundation depending on the result you want to achieve. If you want to conceal a small pimple for example apply it before the foundation, to hide dark circles around the eyes apply a concealer after the foundation application.

Makeup Mistake 4. Not blending your foundation enough
Always blend the foundation well after application. It’s essential , otherwise your face may look like a mask. Start blending at the forehead and slowly spread all over your face, moving in circular motions. Blend onto the jawline and your hair line until the foundation’s lines vanish completely. Blend it with your fingers, makeup sponge or a foundation brush to spread it out evenly. Don’t forget to apply foundation to the neck. Make sure everything blends together and there are no patches.

Makeup Mistake 5. Applying lipstick to chapped lips
Never apply lipstick if your lips are chapped, as it may aggravate the condition. Instead use a lip balm, Vaseline, petroleum jelly to keep your lips moist and soft. If despite all you want to use a lipstick, apply a lip balm before the lipstick to give your lips moisture. Gentle exfoliation with a mild exfoliator and a toothbrush may help you but do it once or twice a week.

Facial Massage – The Easiest Way To Erase Wrinkles

Just as balanced diet and regular exercises are important to control fattening tendency, likewise regular massage of the face is effective method to control wrinkles and give face a sober attraction. Facial massage can stimulate the skin and improve its function.
Skillful massage technique should tone and stimulate the tissues without causing skin distension, loss of relaxation and irritation.
Massage is an effective way to counter wrinkles and fine lines which give an oldish look. It is a slow process and its results will be obvious only when it is continued for a longer period of time.
Facial massage reduces the unattractive fleshiness, tightens the tissues and muscles and increases blood circulation. Massaging the face will help keep the skin hydrated and encourage you to relax.

  • always clean your face before massaging
  • make sure your hands are clean
  • make sure you have removed all traces of makeup, otherwise the pores of skin can be blocked by particles and dirt
  • apply a massaging oil or cream that is suitable for your skin type
  • start from the neck upwards and end at the forehead or temples, because all veins and tissues get blood circulation by this process
  • start with a slow speed from the neck and speed increases as it moves
  • the massage should be done slowly by hitting and vibrating the skin
  • the skin should be pressed lightly with the tips of fingers
  • remove the massaging oil with damp cotton pads
  • at the end apply a hydrating face cream
  • avoid applying any makeup during the next three/ four hours
  • when massaging your face around the eyes, always work from the outer temple inward the bridge of the nose. Move in this direction because the facial muscles around the eyes are suspended from the temple toward the nose. Going in the opposite direction stretches the skin and muscles and risks damage.
  • the best time for a massage is before going to bed
  • to test the elasticity of the skin, pinch the skin gently in each of the main facial areas. Skin that is firm with good elasticity will immediately spring back into shape. Skin with poor elasticity will appear crГЄpey and will not recover immediately from the pinch test.

Remember:
  • normal skin requires deep cleansing, skin balancing and refinement
  • dry skin needs stimulation of cellular function
  • mature skin needs deeper stimulation and surface desquamation
  • younger skin requires cleansing, toning and refining action to free the blocked pores and improve function

diets for quick weight loss

Obesity is a growing problem in the United States. Two-thirds of Americans are either obese or overweight. Obesity is the number one health problem in America. The truth of the matter is it is very preventable with the right diet and regular exercise. Dropping weight can do wonders for you appearance and overall health. Let’s take a look at some diets for quick weight loss.

When you want to lose weight fast, you must create a large calorie deficit. You can do this by cutting back calories, burning calories through exercise, or both. One things diets for quick weight loss will have in common is that they will greatly restrict your calories. There are 3500 calories in a pound of fat. Most diets reduce your calories by about 500. This causes a theoretical weight loss of a pound a week. With diets for quick weight loss you may find you calories reduced to 1000 a day total or even less than that. This should cause weight loss of around 3 pounds a week.

Perhaps one of the best diets for quick weight loss would be a low-carb diet. In this diet you restrict carbohydrates to 50 grams a day or lower. You also reduce overall calories by as much as 1000 a day. By restricting carbohydrates you can control insulin. Insulin is a hormone that promotes fat gain and hinders fat loss. Lowering carb intake also will help you to shed water weight. You will feel less bloated.

When using low-carb diets for quick weight loss you will find you have a very fast initial weight loss. Some people report a weight loss of 10 pounds in the first few days. That is mostly water weight but it does a lot for appearance and motivation. For best results carbohydrates should be consumed by 6:00pm. Only one carbohydrate meal is needed and it should consist of complex carbohydrates.

Another one of the diets for quick weight loss is a crash diet where you basically just cut calories down to 1000 or below while paying no attention to the macronutrients. In this type of diet overall calories are more of a concern instead of carb or fat control. The thinking is that by severely cutting the calories, quick weight loss will follow. Though this method doesn’t produce the results of a low-carb, calorie-reduced diet, it can take off the weight quickly.

Diets for quick weight loss can have their results accelerated with exercise. By both reducing calories in dietary intake and burning them through exercise, you attack your weight problem two ways. This leads to even quicker results than dieting alone.

Dermal Fillers – Are They Really Effective?

Dermal fillers are substances used to restore volume, giving a more beautiful youthful appearance to the face. The dermal fillers are widely used to restore facial contours, reduce the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, creases, to plump thin lips and to enhance hollow contours. What dermal filler can do is depending on the type of the used filler and the state of the skin.

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF DERMAL FILLERS?
  • Restore volume and fullness in the face
  • Soften and restore facial lines
  • Reduce and improve the appearance of fine lines, creases and recessed scars
  • Enhance lip fullness
  • Add volume to the skin creating youthful appearance
  • Remove frown lines between the eyes
  • Treat and fill acne scars
  • Reduce crows? feet and wrinkles around the nose and mouth
  • Plump out hollow cheeks
  • Reshape nose tip or chin
  • Add shape and contour to the face
  • Replace soft tissue volume loss
WHAT ARE THE TYPES OF DERMAL FILLERS ?
As the dermal fillers have the property to return the dermis to its original youthful state, nowadays they are very popular amongst those women who want to stop the aging process and to remove the signs of aging. There are many types of fillers that restore and reshape the obvious signs of facial aging, delivering long lasting results. Today there are many types of dermal fillers, some based on natural substances derived from the human body, others are synthetic forms of these substances and some may contain synthetic, biocompatible compounds.

The dermal fillers can be divided into three main categories:
1 collagen based fillers
2 hyaluronic acid based fillers
3 calcium hydroxyl apetite fillers

Depending on the period of time the filler will be effective the fillers can be divided to:
  • 1 temporary fillers that substitute the natural tissues - they last for a period between 3 and 9 months
  • 2 temporary fillers that stimulate the formation of new tissues - they can last up to 1 year
  • 3 permanent fillers – most of the permanent fillers contain non-biodegradable particles which usually stay constantly in the injected place.
Hyaluronic acid -? It’s a natural substance found in the human body. Hyaluronic acid plays an important role in the way your skin looks, feels, and functions. Hyaluronic acid creates volume in the face, giving it a healthy, youthful appearance. Hyaluronic acid injections work by filling the space between collagen and elastin fibers within the skin, which replenishes the natural volume lost with aging. As hyaluronic acid is clinically produced the risk of allergies is very low. Nowadays the fillers containing hyaluronic acid are the most popular.

Hydroxyl apatite is heavy dermal filler. Hydroxylapatite is used mainly to treat deep creases, frown lines as well as to enhance the fullness of the cheeks. It is a mineral like compound that is naturally found in human bodies.

RADIESSE
Radiesse /previously known as Radiance/ is popular dermal filler that delivers immediate, long lasting result. It’s a form of hydroxyl apatite and is completely biocompatible. It is made of a synthetic substance containing microspheres of calcium hydroxylapetite. As it is very “heavy” Radiesse is mainly used to fill deeper creases, to enhance fullness of the cheeks and other facial contours. Radiesse is injected into the skin through a simple and minimally invasive procedure giving immediate, visible improvement of folds and wrinkles, and providing long-lasting and beautiful results. This filler not only fills in wrinkles, but it stimulates the body to produce new collagen which is essential for a healthy and young-looking skin. Because Radiesse is strong facial filler, it can last up to two years or more.

RESTYLANE
Restylane - based on hyaluronic acid. It’s crystal-clear, non-animal, biodegradable gels. An anti-wrinkle treatment with Restylane is not permanent but a long-lasting. It can be effective for up to 1 year or more after the treatment of wrinkles. Restylane works great to plump thin lips and fill in facial creases, it’s also appropriate for surface wrinkles and concave scars. Restylane is FDA approved and is widely used for soft tissue augmentation. As it is not animal based the risk of allergic reaction is very low and it’s safe to use instantly without pre-testing. Restylane is very popular as it adds volume to the skin without affecting the natural expressions for example like the treatment with Botox. The filler is the most popular dermal filler in the world that is used to contour the face and to enhance the beauty of the face instantly.

JUVEDERM
Juvederm – Dermal filler used to restore a smoother, younger look. It is from the group of the hyaluronic acid fillers. Juvederm is a great choice for those who want to enhance the lips’ size, to correct deep wrinkles and to remove facial lines. Juvederm can also be used to contour cheeks areas and chin. It is injected under the skin to instantly restore the skin’s volume and smooth away facial wrinkles and folds. Juvederm is the first FDA-approved hyaluronic acid dermal filler that is proven to be safe and effective, the result may last for up to 7/ 8 months.

ARTECOLL
Artecoll /also known as ArteFill /is another very popular dermal filler in Europe but unfortunately it is still not FDA approved in the USA. It is used as an injectable micro-implant for long-lasting subdermal augmentation, which includes the correction of wrinkles and of other defects in the connective tissue – Artecoll is mainly used for correction of small subdermal and osseous defects. This filler is made of polymethylmethacrylate microspheres that are suspended in bovine collagen and as it is collagen based, the patients should be tested for allergy to bovine collagen prior to the treatment.

HYLAFORM
Hylaform is another very popular and widely used dermal filler made from a highly purified form of hyaluronic acid that mimics the effects of natural hyaluronic acid. When injected just below the surface of the skin, Hylaform adds volume to the skin, smoothing unwanted lines and wrinkles. When Hylaform gel is injected into an area on the face, it naturally replaces the hyaluronic acid in the skin which is lost with time. The results with this filler are immediate and long lasting.

EVOLENCE
Evolence is collagen based soft tissue filler that restores a natural, youthful appearance by replenishing the lost collagen, adding volume and smoothing wrinkles and folds. Evolence is injected just below the skin’s surface, where it replaces lost collagen and adds support to your skin’s own remaining collagen network. The results are long-lasting and the risk of allergic reaction is low.

ISOLAGEN
Isolagen is very popular filler used to fill in deep wrinkles, fine lines, deep folds and scars. Isolagen is derived from the patient’s own tissue and cannot be rejected by the human immune system.

Before the treatment with dermal filler you should:
  • Make sure that the surgeon is a licensed physician and has completed extensive training and examinations in plastic surgery
  • Make sure you inform your physician for your state of health, lifestyle and desires
  • Make sure you discuss the outcome of the soft tissue augmentation and any risk or potential complications
  • Make sure you that you have informed your doctor about any past treatments with injectable fillers, Botox or previous plastic surgeries.
WHAT CAN YOU EXPECT DURING THE TREATMENT?
First your physician will carefully evaluate your facial appearance and skin tone, he/ she will examine the areas of your face to be augmented with injectable filler.
Depending on the type of the filler that will be injected, a numbing cream or a local anesthetic may be needed, even though that some fillers contain an anesthetic agent.
The surgeon will inject the filler under the skin into the previously marked areas.
The filler will remains in the skin where it binds water to produce a lift and firmness to the treated areas.
You may experience some discomfort for a few seconds.
After the treatment you may experience minimal discomfort like: mild swelling, bruising, redness or temporary numbness.

HOW LONG DOES THE RESULT LAST?
The length of the time that the dermal filler will last depends mainly on the type of the filler used and the area injected. Most of the facial fillers last up to eight months. The continued aging of the face and variables in the absorption of fillers will affect how long the result will last. If you are not happy with the result you shouldn’t repeat the treatment and your appearance will return to its original condition. Unlike the permanent implants or the general plastic surgeries, the dermal fillers can leave you a choice when the effect of the treatment has worn off.

REMEMBER:
  • You can combine dermal fillers with other anti-aging procedures like chemical peel or dermabrasion only after consultation with a physician.
  • Keep in mind that collagen fillers posses a high risk of allergies because collagen is a protein with animal origin.
  • After treatment with dermal filler you may experience slight redness, swelling and bruising but is usually settles by the following day.
  • Always ask your physician for the advantages and the disadvantages of every type of dermal filler, depending on the result you want to achieve.
  • Keep in mind that each filler has its own risk profile.

Cosmetic Oils – The New Powerful Remedy For Your Skin

A few drops of aromatic bath oil can change your mood immediately. The cosmetic industry began to pay more attention to the essential oils since they have discovered their true properties. Until recently the cosmetic oils were used only for a body massage but nowadays there is a huge variety of oils that contain many nourishing and therapeutic ingredients used for different purposes – to regulate oily skin, to shrink large pores, to nourish and moisturize the skin, to repair sun damage, to relief dry skin etc. Nowadays these oils aren’t as oily as they used to be and you can find them at any drugstore or cosmetic counter. The cosmetic oils are appropriate for every age and for every skin type. They can be beneficial for both dry and oily skin as they not only moisturize the skin but they also repair and nourish it.

Maybe your have noticed that the newest face creams, moisturizers, cleansers, body lotions and even the makeup products contain different essential oils due to their properties, smell and benefits.

FACE OILS
The face oils contain a cocktail of essential (vegetable) oils that are “ essential“ for a healthy and beautiful skin. One big misconception is that these oils are appropriate only for dry skin, and that of course isn’t true. For example the teat tree oil or eucalyptus oil have antibacterial properties that regulate the oil production, shrink large pores and repair the skin. If your skin is hypersensitive chamomile oil, olive oil or almond oil will be your best choice as these oils calm and soothe the skin immediately after application. Many of the biggest cosmetic companies began to produce makeup removers in which oil is a main ingredient as it removes any makeup thoroughly without damaging the skin.

How to use and apply face oils?
Apply a small amount of the oil over your entire face and neck and rub the oil very gently to spread it evenly. Leave the oil on your skin for approximately 10/ 15 minutes and then use a tissue to remove the excess. You had better apply the oil in the evening if the product is too oily and you don’t feel comfortable with it. You can also use the oil to massage your skin in order to improve the blood circulation and to “tone“ your skin. Apply the oil with soft, circular motions for about 10 minutes and then remove the excess.

HAIR (SCALP) OILS
Your hair, just as your skin, also needs nourishing and extra TLC. There are different nourishing oils for hair that protect your hair and repair any damage. The active ingredients that these oils contain penetrate deeply into the scalp. They nourish the hair and improve blood circulation. There are oils that regulate the excess sebum production (the biggest problem for those with oily hair), oils that moisturize the hair (for those with dry hair), oils that nourish and repair hair damage (for those with chemically treated hair). There are even hair oils that prevent and “heal“ split ends or frizzy hair. Some scalp oils can even encourage faster hair growth in people with alopecia areata (excessive hair loss) as they nourish and condition the hair deeply.

How to use and apply hair oil?
Hair oils should be applied on dry hair, before washing. To apply the oil evenly you should separate your hair into a few sections. Apply the oil only to the roots and to the ends of the hair, depending on the product, with the aid of your fingers or with a brush. Massage your scalp gently with your fingertips and wrap your head into a towel. Leave the oil on your scalp for approximately 30 minutes, unless the instruction says otherwise. To remove the oil you should use hot or lukewarm water to rinse your hair and a mild shampoo. You can use any hair (scalp) oil once a week to keep your hair and scalp healthy, beautiful and shiny.

BODY OILS
Body oil is a must for those with dry or sensitive skin. The body oils are also known as “dry“ oils because they are absorbed quickly into the skin without leaving any oily patches. The body oils usually come in a spray form and the application is very easy (usually takes 1/ 2 minutes). These oils have a big concentration of moisturizing and nourishing ingredients – essential oils that repair the upper layer of the skin. These oils erase any feeling of dryness or tightness and keep the skin well-moisturized all day long.

How to use and apply body oils?
You shouldn’t use body oil for a massage purposes, as most of them absorb quickly into the skin. Apply the oil on wet skin, straight after a bath as the oil will lock 10 times more moisture than many body lotions or creams.

NAIL AND CUTICLE OILS
Nail and cuticle oils are the best “remedy“ for brittle, weak nails and dry cuticles. The nourishing ingredients soften the cuticles, straighten the nails and prevent the appearance of dry cuticles.

How to use and apply nail and cuticle oil?
Apply the oil daily by gently rubbing it into the cuticles. Massage in to help increase circulation to the nail bed and stimulate new nail growth. Reapply as often as desired.

The most common oils used in the cosmetic industry:
1. Lavender oil
  • for oily skin prone to acne and frequent breakout

Common Skin Care Mistakes

Skin care Mistake 1. You think you can hydrate your skin simply with water.
It may seem simply but actually water contains large amounts of salt which may easily settle on the surface of your skin leading to the opposite effect – to dry the skin. If you want to hydrate your skin you should use thermal sprays as they have the best hydrating action. Thermal water contains minerals and elements which are useful for your skin - it moisturizes and soothes the skin, preventing it from feeling tight and dry. Recent clinical research show that the mineral-rich water fortifies the skin, restores the pH balance and protects the skin against external aggressors like pollutionn for example. Applying thermal water in the form of a spray is easy and simple – spray it on the skin and after a minute wipe your skin dry.

Skin care Mistake 2. You think you can use your friend’s or mother’s skin care products. Yes, you can use these products but only if they are appropriate for your skin type. Using the wrong skin care products is the most common skin care mistake. A recent research show that 64 percent of the women do not know what exactly is their skin type as well as that 37 percent of the teenagers use the wrong skincare and makeup products. For example if your skin feels tight and dry in the morning and during the day it simply means that your skin is dry; if you are prone to sudden rashes and burns it means your skin might be sensitive; if your skin appears too oily and greasy your skin may be mixed or oily.

Skin care Mistake 3. You think you can nourish your skin by applying Vitamin E ampoule.
It is true that vitamin E has excellent nourishing and moisturizing properties but when it is applied in the form of oil solution it may seriously irritate your skin and cause the appearance of rashes and small dark spots. Vitamin E added to lotions, creams, and other skin care products, as well as taken orally, plays a role in the anti-aging of skin. It helps skin look younger by reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, reduce the risk of sun damage to cells as well as reduce the production of cancer-causing cells but you should remember that the concentration of the ampoule should not be more than 5 % otherwise it may cause serious side effects.

Skin care Mistake 4. You think all of the essential oils are harmful for oily skin.
Absolutely wrong. Only the mineral oils may clog the pores and cause irritation to the skin. Almost 78 percent of the skin care products contain essential oils which have different field of acting – one hydrate the skin; others nourish the skin making it look younger and cleaner. For example jojoba oil, olive oil, aloe vera are recommended for those women with combination or oily skin.

Skin care Mistake 5. You thing that the scrub with natural particles is better than the ones with synthetic granules.
Just the opposite. The edges of the synthetic particles have been processed and they won’t cause trauma to your skin. Limit the usage of sea salt only form your knees, heels, elbows but never exfoliate your skin or neck with sea salt.

Choose Your Cosmetics According To Your Age

Under the age of 12
Most of the biggest cosmetic companies have a special range of makeup products for children. But that doesn’t mean that a child should use makeup. Even a lipstick in a pinky shade won’t look nice on child’s lips. You can buy your daughter a children’s shampoo, children’s toothpaste that contain special ingredients that won’t cause any problems. A colorless lip balm with propolis, Vaseline, honey or fruity taste will protect your child’s lips without looking unnatural. After taking a shower you may apply an oily baby oil or cream such as Johnson&Johnson Baby, Baby Oil.

Teen’s years
During puberty your skin has many problems – pimples, blackheads, whiteheads, excessive oil production. Most of the girls begin using heavy foundations and powders to hide these imperfections but that often aggravate the condition.

The most important thing is to keep your skin clean. There are thousands of anti-bacterial cleansing gels, foams, creams that are suitable for the sensitive teenager’s skin. Form a habit of cleansing your face every day with appropriate products – cleansers, toners and use face creams containing natural ingredients. Gradually you will understand what exactly works best for you.В The hydrating cleansing milk and lotions are great choice for every teenager. Do an exfoliating mask once or twice a week to remove the dead skin cells. Don’t panic is a pimple appears before an important event – you are not the first nor the last person that has pimples. Don’t forget to use a sunscreen to prevent the appearance of brown spots. Enjoy your youth.

At the age of 19 to 26
This is the time when your skin needs less care. A good hydrating cream and daily facial cleansing should be all that’s needed to keep your skin healthy looking. It is still early to start using anti-aging creams with collagen, Retinol or an eye cream. Your skin is still elastic and fresh and there is no need to “nourish“ it with additional rejuvenating ingredients. The most important thing is to wear a sunscreen with SPF higher than 15. You know that the sun is the biggest enemy of the youthful skin. The undesired skin imperfections such as acne, comedones, pimples on the back and shoulders can be avoided with regular cleaning of the skin and a proper diet that includes fresh vegetables and fruits. Limit the consumption of greasy foods, chocolate, alcohol, cigarette smoke.

At the age of 26 to 35
The women in this age should be careful for the harmful influences on their skin. Insufficient sleep, smoking, stress, hormonal changes reflect to your skin. At that age you should begin using a combination of night and day cream as well as an eye cream. Again continue using a sunscreen to prevent premature aging due to the sun’s harmful rays. At the age of 30 you can see the first signs of aging – fine lines around the eyes and around the mouth, brown spots. Most of the cosmetic companies have special ranges for the different age groups.

Over 35
At the age of 35 you should start using anti-aging skincare products. You should use day and night anti-aging serums, creams and the usage of an anti-aging eye cream is crucial. Keep your skin clean and don’t apply too much makeup. Look for a light reflecting foundations and powders, with anti-aging ingredients. Avoid using too bright colors for your makeup as they can make you appear older. Using nourishing masks and nourishing lotions is essential in order to keep your skin healthy and glowing.

Breast Cancer myths

1. Breast cancer only affects older women.
No, that’s not true. While it’s true that the risk of breast cancer increases as we grow older, breast cancer can occur at any age. There are registered cases when a 13 year old girl was diagnosed with breast cancer.

2. If you have a risk factor for breast cancer, you’re likely to get the disease.
No, that’s not true. Getting breast cancer is not a certainty, even if you have one of the stronger risk factors, like a breast cancer gene abnormality. Of women with a inherited genetic abnormality, will develop breast cancer over their lifetime, 20 – 60% won’t. All other risk factors are associated with a much lower probability of being diagnosed with breast cancer.

3. If breast cancer doesn’t run in your family, you won’t get it.
No, that’s not true. Every woman has some risk of breast cancer. About 70% of women who get breast cancer have no known family history of the disease. Increasing age – just the wear and tear of living is the biggest single risk factor for breast cancer. For those women who do have a family history of breast cancer, your risk may be elevated a little, a lot, or not at all. If you are concerned, discuss your family history with your GP or a genetic counselor.

4. Only your mother’s family history of breast cancer can affect your risk.
No, that’s not true. A history of breast cancer in your mother’s or your father’s family will influence your risk equally. That’s because half of your genes come from your mother, half from your father. But a man with a breast cancer gene abnormality is less likely to develop breast cancer than a woman with a similar gene. So, if you want to learn more about your father’s family history, you have to look mainly at the women on your father’s side, not just the men.

Rata Penuh5. Using antiperspirants causes breast cancer.
No, that’s not true. There is no evidence that the active ingredient in antiperspirants, or reducing perspiration from the underarm area, influences breast cancer risk. The supposed link between breast cancer and antiperspirants is based on misinformation about anatomy and a misunderstanding of breast cancer.

6. Birth control pills cause breast cancer.
No, that’s not true. Modern day birth control pills contain a low dose of the hormones estrogen and progesterone. Many research studies show no association between birth control pills and an increased risk of breast cancer. However, one study that combined the results of many different studies did show an association between birth control pills and a very small increase in risk. The study also showed that this slight increase in risk decreased over time.

7. Eating high-fat foods causes breast cancer
No, that’s not true. Several large studies have not been able to demonstrate a clear connection between eating high-fat foods and a higher risk of breast cancer. Ongoing studies are attempting to clarify this issue further. Excess body weight, is a risk factor for breast cancer, because the extra fat increases the production of estrogen outside the ovaries and adds to the overall level of estrogen in the body. If you are already overweight, or have a tendency to gain weight easily, avoiding high-fat foods is a good idea.

8. A monthly breast self-exam is the best way to diagnose breast cancer. Yes, at some point. High quality, film-screen mammography is the most reliable way to find breast cancer as early as possible, when it is most curable. By the time a breast cancer can be felt, it is usually bigger than the average size of a cancer first found on mammography. Breast examination by you or your healthcare provider is still very important. About 25% of breast cancers are found only on breast examination (not on the mammogram), about 35% are found on mammography alone, and 40% are found by both physical exam and mammography. Keep both bases covered.

9. I’m at high risk for breast cancer and there’s nothing I can do about it. No, that’s not true. There are several effective ways to reduce, but not eliminate the risk of breast cancer in women at high risk. Options include lifestyle changes (minimize alcohol consumption, stop smoking, exercise regularly), medication (tamoxifen); and in cases of very high risk, surgery may be offered (prophylactic mastectomies, and for some women, prophylactic ovary removal). Be sure that you have consulted with a physician or genetic counselor before you make assumptions about your level of risk.

10. A breast cancer diagnosis is an automatic death sentence
No, that’s not true. Fully 80% of women diagnosed with breast cancer have no signs of metastases (no cancer has spread beyond the breast and nearby lymph nodes). Furthermore, 80% of these women live at least five years, most longer, and many live much longer. Even women with signs of cancer metastases can live a long time. Plus promising treatment breakthroughs are becoming available each day.
